In this edition of the OCA Days 2024, although the code sprint took a back seat, a new space for talks was introduced, allowing for three simultaneous presentations (agenda). Nevertheless, the code sprint worktables remained active, leading to several contributions.
The motivation behind these changes is related to the OCA's goal of further fostering collaboration between the community and businesses, maintaining a balance between contributors and companies developing business. In this context, the strong participation of Spanish companies highlights their commitment to the community, especially with their active involvement in these collaborative efforts.
The presentations covered a variety of topics, including the evolution and future of the OCA, modules and documentation, open upgrade, integrations and verticals, and DevOps. This diversity allowed participants to access relevant information about the latest developments in the Odoo ecosystem.
Some of the most notable presentations included that of AEODOO, where questions about the role of associations were addressed, with Pedro Baeza presenting AEODOO alongside other associations like the Italian and the new Mexican one. .
The new Executive Director of the OCA, Virginie Dewulf, faces significant challenges in her role. Among her proposals is the need to develop a sustainable business model that adapts to an ever-changing market. This approach aims to strengthen ties with businesses while maintaining the collaborative model that has proven successful over the years. It’s a significant challenge that requires innovative strategy.
On the topic of the collaboration model, there were presentations like the one from Jorge Elena Poblet, CEO of Binhex, which focused on how customers perceive the open-source model and how this approach can be more beneficial to their businesses. The presentation emphasized the importance of explaining the advantages of the collaborative model to customers, showing how it not only promotes sustainability but also drives innovation and adaptability in their operations.
